Gariwo Foundation

The purpose of the Gariwo Foundation is to promote greater awareness and understanding of the stories and legacies of the Righteous of Humanity – individuals who saved lives, and stood up for freedom and democracy during genocides, crimes against humanity, and human rights violations – and to honor their memory in the Gardens of the Righteous. Over more than twenty-five years of activity, the Gariwo Foundation has contributed to the creation of around 300 Gardens of the Righteous in Italy, Europe, and Worldwide. As stated by the UN Office on the Prevention of Genocide in a recent Memorandum of Understanding we jointly signed (https://it.gariwo.net/dl/202411201636_MOU-OSAPG_Gariwo_signed.pdf), Gardens of the Righteous are considered an effective and powerful tool for the prevention of genocide and other atrocity crimes.
