Hero Women Rising

Hero Women Rising aims to improve the conditions in which women and adolescent girls live in South Kivu province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.  We are a U.S.-based nonprofit that directs funds to grassroots, women-led projects in D.R. Congo. Our main partner, Synergy of Congolese Women’s Associations (SAFECO), is a group of local women-led associations. We envision a peaceful and prosperous eastern D.R. Congo, where women have equal access to meaningful decision-making and are empowered to contribute to society.

Hero Women Rising uses education and technology to amplify women’s voices, teaches women to advocate for their rights and their environment, helps build their economic capacity, and supports the development of other women’s organizations. These goals are achieved through programs that bring women together in activities that not only build skills but also enable women to work alongside one another to contribute to a more comprehensive and effective grassroots peacebuilding.
