Rohingyatographer

Bangladesh

Rohingyatographer is dedicated to empowering the Rohingya community through photography, providing a platform for self-representation and storytelling. Our mission is to foster global understanding and empathy for the Rohingya crisis, preserve cultural memory, and advocate for human rights and dignity. By empowering Rohingya individuals to document their own narratives, we aim to challenge perceptions, inspire change, and contribute to a world where art acts as a powerful catalyst for social justice.

They produce exhibitions, publications and publish Rohingya refugee stories through their online platform. Since their inception, they have published three major works: Issue 1 (Identity)Issue 2 (The Elements), and Issue 3 (Food) which is a comprehensive visual ethnographic survey of food and resilience in the refugee camps.

They are conducting a 30-week Human Rights & Visual Storytelling course with nearly 100 Rohingya students. This program includes online sessions and lectures by international guests experts in their field from photography to human rights law. Student work is published weekly on their Instagram platform to document the Rohingya experience in real-time. Recently, our students collaborated with the Rohingya Art Club to produce a mural in the refugee camp with pictures attached below.

They've also recently published a comprehensive piece on the following:

“Rohingya Proof of Belonging: The Fragile Papers That Survived a Century of Exile”

This article documents the historical and legal continuity of Rohingya identity through surviving family archives and state-issued documents. It speaks directly to questions of citizenship, erasure, and historical accountability.
