Sudan Unlimited
San Francisco, CA
Sudan Unlimited supports Sudanese and South Sudanese who are working tirelessly to secure freedom, peace and justice for Sudan and South Sudan.
Newspaper headlines highlight the problems of both countries - poor governance, corruption, oppression, racism, tribalism, division, violence, war, mass atrocities, genocide, extreme poverty, famine and the absence of basic services and infrastructure. These serious issues exist, but they do not define the people of Sudan and South Sudan but rather the failures of those in power. The potential of Sudan and South Sudan is unlimited. At Sudan Unlimited, we seek to amplify the voices of Sudanese and South Sudanese and to support their work.
In 2003, Esther Sprague, Founder and Director of Sudan Unlmited, heard Mamer Kuer Ajak, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, tell his story of walking across Sudan in order to escape the bombs and bullets of the Sudan regime. Mamer was very worried about the violence in Darfur because it mirrored his own experience as a child. Together, they became activists to end violence and build peace in Sudan. The vision and determination of Mamer and many other Sudanese and South Sudanese for a New Sudan inspired the formation of Sudan Unlimited in 2006.
