Book launch & panel discussion: war seen through children's eyes (Waging Peace)
Date & Time
Apr 9, 2024 01:30 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
It has been a year since conflict resumed in Sudan, causing the world’s largest displacement crisis, and massive civilian casualties. Yet the war rarely makes the headlines, despite the implications for migration, and insecurity in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea.
Our panel will discuss why the international community must be more engaged since whichever military group prevails, both Russia and Islamist extremists will benefit. At the meeting, the human rights charity Waging Peace will launch a book of drawings by Sudanese children caught in conflict. Their detailed and graphic images were accepted by the International Criminal Court as evidence of genocide in Darfur. This is the watch-only livestream link.
Those hoping to attend in-person in London should email info@wagingpeace.info. The event will be held primarily in English and not Arabic, and interpretation is not available.
Panellists: -
(Chair) Rebecca Tinsley, journalist and founder of Waging Peace -
Mohanad Hashim, award-winning BBC journalist and Sudan expert -
Elbashir Idris, Sudanese activist and analyst -
Richard Cockett, Senior Editor at The Economist
Further speakers drawn from Sudanese survivor, journalistic, and policy communities TBC.
We will also hopefully be joined by a Foreign Office representative.
