CALL FOR YOUNG ASPIRING JOURNALISTS

The Post-Conflict Research Center invites young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina between the ages of 18-30 to participate in the tenth training and mentorship program for Balkan Diskurs youth correspondents. It will be held from October 31 to November 04, 2024. You can find more information about the program and how to apply here.

NETWORKING OVER BORDERS

The PCRC's work is built on strong partnerships and collaborations with a diverse range of institutions and non-governmental organizations, forming the foundation of our mission. This month, we participated in several key events, including a meeting of the Coalition for Freedom of Expression and Content Moderation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We also visited memorials in Budapest, Hungary, as members of the Interreligious Dialogue at the Srebrenica Memorial Center. Additionally, we had the honor of speaking at the second Sarajevo Security Conference, organized by the Strategic Analysis Initiative, the RESOLVE: Network Conference presenting our peacebuilding work, hosted by Asfar, and two panel discussions on memorialization and post-conflict recovery, organized by Humanity in Action BiH.

SARAJEVO SECURITY CONFERENCE

We joined the 2nd Sarajevo Security Conference in a panel session tackling geopolitics of conflict, nationalism, and reconciliation. Moderated by our Board Member, Dr Paul Lowe, the session presented post-conflict work and methodologies by renowned speakers including Dr. James Waller (University of Connecticut), Dr. Alfred Montoya (Trinity University ), Prof. Rachel Kerr (Kings College London), Dr. Mehnaz Afridi (Manhattan University), Richard Newell (University of Graz/Aegis Trust), and our President and Founder Velma Šarić.

The discussion highlighted the complexities of reconciliation in post-conflict recovery. Participants noted that reconciliation means different things to different cultures. Reconciliation isn’t one-size-fits-all, while justice and empathy are key.

MEMORIALIZATION AND PEACE

PCRC has been a member of the Dialogue Committee of the Srebrenica Memorial Center for three years, and as part of its activities for the year 2024, in September we visited the Holocaust Memorial and the Blinken OSA Archivum in Budapest. This visit has a special significance for strengthening cooperation between memorial institutions and preserving the memory of victims of genocide and other war crimes.

PCRC AND HIA ACTIVITIES

Our Amina Sejfić and Erna Mačkić participated in panel discussions organized by Humanity in Action Bosnia and Herzegovina. Amina joined Zarja Marković and Dr. Pavle Mijović in a conversation on human rights and post-conflict reconstruction, while Erna took part in a panel on memorialization with Enes Hodžić and Kerim Hodžić.

At the 2024 RESOLVE Network Conference in Sarajevo, hosted by Asfar, we distributed the latest, second edition of our MIR magazine.
