During the anti-discrimination student movement and the subsequent interim government, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliated organizations were subjected to barbaric and inhumane killings. 205 leaders and activists have been confirmed to have been killed from 16 July 2024 to 16 June 2025.
From 16 July 2024 to 16 June 2025, barbaric and brutal murders were committed in various ways. Some were burned, some were hacked or beaten, while others were shot; there were prison killings, and also in the custody of law enforcement authorities.
The families of the victims of all these barbaric killings have not been able to take any legal action against the criminals and perpetrators, nor have they been able to file cases in the police station or court. In particular, the current interim government has been granting indemnity to those who committed murder, arson, looting, and encroachment from 8 July 2024 to 15 August 2024. The interim government is systematically destroying evidence and accurate statistics of all crimes. Even in the cases of criminal offenses, including murders after 15 August 2024, the families of leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliates have not been able to take any legal action. On the other hand, false cases are being filed in the names of Awami League leaders and activists instead of filing cases against the real culprits by pressuring the victim families.
Since taking office, the interim government has been preventing the publication of real events through strict censorship in the media. Although a part of the above statistics was collected from newspapers, it is believed that the actual number of deaths will increase if further investigation is conducted. Hence, this list should be considered incomplete.
We urge international communities, human rights organizations, and all defenders of justice to stand with the families of the victims and demand independent investigations into the deaths of 205 Bangladesh Awami League leaders and activists.
